View descending Fairfield looking over Rydal Water with Windermere in the distance I thought it would be hard work - and it was!! In the last week my friend Alan and I managed to climb Great Gable and the Fairfield Horseshoe (not in the same day!). It was knackering at times and, not being accustomed to climbing nearly 3000 ft, my legs moaned and groaned about it all for days; however it was all worth while and the views and special atmosphere experienced at the tops of high fells are just something unique. It's a bit depressing though when you are staggering up a mountain, trying to ignore the aches and pains and thinking you are doing quite well when some twonk runs past and still has enough breath to shout "G'mornin'!" in a cheery manner! It's pure envy on my part of course! And I'm only joking - we are lucky to be able to do these things at all. And anyway, the pint of Sneck Lifter at the end makes everything seem agreeable again.
So it was a great week. I've walked in the Lake Districk quite a bit now; it's vastly different to walking locally but probably a good thing for a Fuzzacker to do every now and then - see how the other half lives as it were! And find out the level of (un)fitness!  I'll have to get the other Fuzzacker guides doing it obviously............ ...

When I got back on Friday after a rain-lashed drive down the motorway I had to go to Lyndhurst for a Friendship weekend. Despite accommodation problems and iffy weather we had a really good time and my thanks to Alex, Diane ,Sue, Richard, the Bishop and the Actress for being such good company. I had to adjust the routes a bit to keep out of the worst of the mud but we survived! And the Drift Inn was a welcome oasis as usual!                                                                                                                                                  By the way, if you are on Facebook have a look at the new Fuzzacker Guided Walks page - be especially nice if you could "like" it too ........
