Just a short entry this, just to say what a great afternoon we had. It was only a small group but after an enjoyable walk we met up with Pete & Mandy Pidgley of the Haywards stud farm who gave us the most fantastic talk about the breed. We had the privilege of standing in a field containing several mares with their foals of less than a month old while Pete gave us an insight into the life of a Commoner and the passion (you can't call it anything else) which keeps alive this traditional way of life which is so vital to our Forest. Previously he had proudly shown us Elton, a stallion who is Dad to many a fine offspring - I don't know whether Pete was more proud of Elton's good looks or the fact that he definitely doesn't fire blanks! (Elton that is!!). Whatever, it was just a great experience and I'd like to once again say a big thank you to the Pidgleys for giving us their valuable time - it was most appreciated. Below is one of the foals, 3-week old William who likes people (and nibbling said people's fleeces!).
